James Plaskitt

James Plaskitt, MP for Warwick and Leamington, was first elected in 1997. This is his first Ministerial appointment. He has served on the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee since 1999, and is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Design & Innovation, Disability and Modernisation of the House of Commons.

He is also a member of the Labour Party Departmental Committees for the Treasury, the Department for Work and Pensions, and on Legal and Constitutional Affairs.

Previously he served in Oxfordshire County Council between 1985 and 1990 when he became Leader of the Labour Group. He served in that position until 1996.

Prior to this he lectured in politics at Christ Church Oxford, after teaching for four years at Brunel University.

Born in Grimsby in 1954, he has lived in Leamington Spa since 1996.
