Our challenges
The Department is at the forefront of a sustained and radical reform of the welfare state. We are fundamentally restructuring operations, investing in our people and technology and transforming our services.
Our main challenges are:
- meeting our customers’ expectations – they want joined-up delivery, and don't expect to have to give the same information again and again
- creating stronger leadership, learning and engagement across DWP to deliver services more effectively
- transforming the way we work to improve our service to customers while increasing efficiency and reducing costs by five per cent a year between 2008 and 2011.
Our vision
Our vision is of ‘Work, Welfare, Well-being, Well delivered’. Our aspiration is to offer a ‘No wrong door’ service to our customers, based on a deeper understanding of their needs.
Our priorities
We have already made progress. This has included attracting talented and ambitious people from both the private and public sectors into DWP and its delivery agencies. But we have more to do.
Over the next few years our priorities will include:
- implementing our strategy to end child poverty and the redesign of child maintenance
- delivering the Welfare Reform agenda
- delivering the most ambitious Pensions Reform programme in 50 years
- building on the progress we have already made in achieving greater equality for disabled people.
