Pre-appointment enquiries
We will need to carry out a number of enquiries before you can begin to work with us.
Like all employers, DWP has to make sure that all its employees are suitable to work in our organisation and that they are allowed to work in the United Kingdom.
We have to check on your identity, age, nationality, employment record, character and right to work. We will ask for certain documents to help us do this.
There are two forms on this page that we will need you to fill in to help us make these checks. We will write to you to tell you when we need these forms.
You will need to save the forms on your computer before you start filling them in.
The forms are available in alternative formats such as braille or audio. Contact the person named in the job advert if you need an alternative format.
We may also be cross-checking the information you provide with information held on our own systems. To allow us to do this we will ask you to complete a consent form if required.
Character and criminal record declaration
We need to ask you about anything that may affect your ability to carry out the role of a civil servant.
- Fill in the Character and criminal record declaration form (275KB) RTF
Civil Service nationality requirements
The Civil Service has legal nationality requirements for its employees. To work for DWP, or any other government department, you have to be one of the following:
- a British national
- a national of the European Economic Area
- a national of the European Free Trade Area
- a citizen of the Republic of Ireland (Eire)
- a Commonwealth citizen with permission to work in this country
- a British Protected person.
