Description

The reorganisation of Corporate IT, resulting in this vacancy/these vacancies provides us with an opportunity to recruit the very best. We are looking for women and men to join our IT Operation, who can meet demanding personal objectives as part of a team while working in harmony with our operational staff and leading IT suppliers.

What we do

Corporate IT operates alongside the Department's businesses to design and deliver technological solutions, enabling the Department to improve performance, reduce cost and modernise the services it provides to its customers.  The daily delivery of IT services to DWP businesses enables the Department to maintain services to its customers.  Corporate IT also helps to shape and implement cross-government modernisation, working with partners in Whitehall and Local Government to improve access to and join up services for customers.

The Team

Future Design within Corporate IT are responsible for the Department's IT Strategy, Innovation and Architecture.  Its goal is to articulate a future state for the department, enabled by technology, that creates new operational and policy options whilst reducing costs and enhancing customer service.

Background

We currently have a vacancy on the Innovation team within Future Design. This role will take the lead in identifying opportunities for delivering business value through innovation, leading solutions through to delivery, and pro-actively marketing the business benefits of innovation. In this role you will work with:

Peers in the DWP business areas to understand strategic business drivers and to ensure Future Design are capable of supporting business objectives

Peers in other CIT directorates to provide expert guidance and strategic leadership to ensure solutions can be delivered that meet business needs.

Peers in Other Government Departments to ensure effective alignment of strategy and innovation with Government policy and cross-government initiatives.

The Role:

As an Innovator you will join the Future Design team and play a major role in delivering business change enabled by IT across the DWP and wider government.

Responsibilities:

Working as part of a team you will:

  • Demonstrate passion, innovation and persistence in driving change within a large organisation
  • Create and present proposals identifying opportunities with a sound business case that would deliver benefit to the DWP
  • Market and communicate our strategic direction: its aims, objectives and business value and outcomes
  • Build an effective network of relationships to sell ideas and propositions effectively to stakeholders at all levels. 

Essential requirements:

  • Proven ability to demonstrate passion, innovation and persistence in driving change within a large organisation
  • Well developed networking and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience of communicating and marketing technical concepts and strategies to a wide range of stakeholder communities and groups and all levels of an organisation
  • Broad knowledge of the Department, it's current & future planned use of technology and its relationship with Other Government departments (OGDs).
  • Proven ability to analyse sometimes complex technical and business issues and formulate well-reasoned and logical propositions, resolutions and/or responses

Desirable requirements:

  • Demonstrable understanding of the DWP Change Lifecycle and governance processes
  • Experience of influencing strategic direction and building consensus with the business in a large and complex organisation

Proven track record of delivering IS and IT for commercial benefit and to leverage strategic business advantage.
