About DWP

DWP equality objectives

The Equality Act 2010 applied a Public Sector Equality Duty (Equality Duty) to public bodies. The Equality Duty requires public authorities to have due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations. In addition many public bodies, including the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is subject to specific duties as set out in regulations that came into force on 10 September 2011.

The specific duties requires DWP to publish relevant, proportionate information demonstrating compliance with the Equality Duty by 31 January 2012 and at least annually thereafter. The Department’s equality information is published online.

The second specific duty requires DWP to set specific, measurable equality objectives by 6 April 2012 and subsequently at intervals of not less than four years beginning with the date of publication.

The DWP equality objectives look at addressing key equality issues identified by the Department for both its customers and employees.
