About DWP

DWP equality information

As a public authority, the Department for Work and Pensions is required to publish, at least annually, relevant, proportionate information demonstrating its compliance with the Equality Duty under the Equality Act 2010. This replaces the previous requirement to publish equality schemes.

The information relates to both our service users and employees who share protected characteristics covered by the duty.

The Department is committed to providing services which embrace diversity and which promote equality of opportunity. As an employer we are also committed to equality and valuing diversity within our workforce.

We welcome the need to publish equality information as it encourages all public bodies to be transparent about their decision-making processes. It also gives the public the information they need to hold public bodies to account for their performance on equality.

The Public Sector Equality Duty

There is more information about the Public Sector Equality Duty on the legislation.gov.uk website.

Archived equality schemes

The Department for Work and Pensions published race, disability and gender equality schemes from 2006 to 2010 under the legislation that applied at the time. Equality schemes were reviewed every three years and progress reports were published annually. Archived copies are available on The National Archives website.
