North East Region
Partnerships
In the North East, Jobcentre Plus works with a wide range of partners to deliver services to help our customers. Our Regional and District External Relations managers work with organisations with mutual aims to:
- help our customers into work
- improve the regions skills base
- provide support to meet customer needs, including developing specialist support for disadvantaged client groups.
The area we serve extends from the Scottish border to Guisborough, and from Hexham to the east coast, covers three districts, and has a total population of around 2.5 million.
The three districts covered include Northumbria, South Tyne and Wear Valley and Tees Valley.
Jobcentre Plus in the North East currently delivers its services across the region through:
- 55 Jobcentres situated from Berwick to Loftus.
- Over 2000 staff looking after the needs of over 300,000 customers.
- 3 Benefit Delivery Centres supporting the Jobcentre network by processing payments for each customer.
- 2 Contact Centres providing the initial point of contact for customers making welfare benefit claims and for employers placing vacancies.

Background
The three Districts and their Local Authorities are:
- Northumbria – Northumberland County Council, Newcastle City Council, North Tyneside Council and Gateshead MBC.
- South Tyne and Wear Valley – City of Sunderland, South Tyneside Council and Durham County Council.
- Tees Valley – Middlesbrough MBC, Hartlepool Borough Council, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Darlington Borough Council, Stockton on Tees Borough Council.
