London Region
Partnerships
The customer experience is at the heart of what we do. We work with a wide range of partners and stakeholders to support customers find and progress in sustained employment. We also assist them access the services, benefits and financial support they need from across the welfare system.
Our main focus is on tailoring our services to meet the needs of our customers which will help embed our services in local communities and help eliminate discrimination and promote equal opportunities. We achieve this through:
- Helping people who could work to make the journey back into employment through the new Work Programme.
- Work with external partners and stakeholders to help move customers towards a more dynamic system that will make it easier for our customers to calculate how much better off they will be in work.
- A range of programmes and initiatives to enhance the implementation of welfare reform.
Background
London is unique and multi-layered. It has a Mayor who sets the vision for London through strategies and policy development.
There are currently six districts that make up the London Region:
- Central London
- City and East
- Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth
- South London
- North and North East London
- West London.
These districts serve an estimated 7.62 million residents covering all 33 London Boroughs, and 90 local Jobcentre Plus offices delivering a wide range of services to customers throughout the Greater London area.
London has some of the most deprived areas in the UK with high levels of worklessness, crime, health and educational inequalities. For example 28% of London’s neighbourhood are within the 20% most deprived in England.
London is a very large, diverse economy, which generates one fifth of the UK’s total tax revenues. It has a large, complex labour market with travel to work areas that criss-cross the capital and extend out deeply into the surrounding regions.
